What's New at Mentalix
Pixel!FX Product Family Expanded, Offering End-to-End Image Processing and Database Management for UNIX-Based Color Images
PLANO, Texas - September 15, 1995 - To meet the growing need to manage thousands of images, Mentalix, Inc., today announced the availability of two new products, Pixel!DB and Pixel!FX Deluxe, expanding its image scanning and processing family of products. A new release of Pixel!FX, Version 4.0, was also announced today.
Businesses, particularly those involved in desktop publishing, office automation, document imaging, GIS, and government services, rely on Pixel!FX, the industry's premier solution for image scanning, annotation, editing and processing on UNIX platforms. As these businesses work with more and more images, the need to organize them becomes paramount to efficient daily operations.
Pixel!DB, an image database, allows easy storage, indexing, searching and retrieval of thousands of images. As an add-on component to the Pixel!FX product, Pixel!DB interfaces directly with the Pixel!SCAN and Pixel!OCR products for seamless scanning, recognition, storage and retrieval of images.
The drag-and-drop Motif interface of Pixel!DB affords ease-of-use for importing, exporting and printing images. Users can add textual information to each image, such as title, keywords, descriptions and user-defined notes, which can later be searched on using the powerful query mechanisms of Pixel!DB. Browser support enables users to flip through "thumbnail" sketches of each image in the database before opening the desired image.
To address all the needs a user has for image processing, Mentalix now offers Pixel!FX Deluxe, a product suite of all the Pixel! products, including Pixel!SCAN, Pixel!VIEW, Pixel!EDIT, Pixel!DB, Pixel!OCR, Pixel!PRINT, and Pixel!LZW.
"We see tremendous demand for image storage management from a proven image processing provider. Our superior Pixel!FX product, as well as close involvement with our customer base to build the solution they need, put Mentalix in a position to offer a complete range of image processing and management products for the UNIX environment," noted Paul Siegert, president of Mentalix. "With the Pixel!FX Deluxe product suite, we are offering our customers end-to-end image management from a single, proven source."
Siegert continued, stating, "We have also expanded the functionality for most of our Pixel! products with Version 4. Our customers rely on our products for high-end image processing, and we worked closely with them to build these features."
Pixel!SCAN now offers one-step scan color calibration to generate color characterization for the installed scanner, helping the user to produce quality scans even better than the original.
New features in Pixel!EDIT include image stitching, to assemble multiple images together into a larger composite image, and graphical annotation tools, to add polylines, geometric shapes and text to images. These shapes can be stored separate from the image or burned in to the image.
Pixel!OCR includes a new search engine and automatic zone decomposition and zone ordering, making it easy to process forms, typically with better than 99% recognition.
Pixel!FX Deluxe and its components run on six UNIX operating systems, including Sun OS, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, IBM AIX, SGI IRIX and Digital UNIX, and support over 20 different SCSI scanners from six scanner manufacturers.
Founded in 1989, Mentalix, Inc., is headquartered in Plano, Texas, and is a worldwide provider of software products for image scanning, annotation, editing, storage, retrieval and processing on UNIX platforms.
